Biking, hiking and horseback riding
Nearby Nehalem Bay State Park has a 1.75-mile bike trail
that circles the park airplane landing strip. Along this
route you're likely to see deer grazing, a herd of elk,
or a coyote crossing the road. The park is also has a
variety of birds. Horseback riding on trails or the
beach is also available during spring break and summer
(from Memorial Day to Labor Day).
For hikers, Neahkahnie Mountain at the north end of Manzanita Beach offers spectacular views of Nehalem Bay and coastal areas farther south. The mountain rises 1600 feet above the north end of Manzanita Beach and plunges into the sea. During whale watching seasons (spring and winter), volunteers are available to help you spot whales and to explain their migratory habits.
